Inside glamping wine barrel

Peaceful and exclusive, available Easter to October, the barrels include a double bed sleeping platform, benches and table, with a veranda seat overlooking beautiful rolling Dorset countryside and views of Melbury Hill. Nestled on a hillside terrace just below the Melbury Vale Vineyard and above the gently babbling Stirkel brook. Each barrel has its own brazier, so that you can sit out and watch the stars next to a real fire!

There are only three barrels, each sleeping a max of 2 people, keeping it private, friendly and low key. There is a fully fitted out shared kitchen in our gypsy kitchen trailer and wet room showers and toilets inside the winery with piping hot water. There is also a large outside picnic and BBQ area with picnic benches and tables, perfect for a small group to get together….6 of you have the glamping area and facilities to yourselves for the whole weekend!

Example Itinerary:
Arrive Friday, anytime from 2 – 6pm, with a warm welcome and introduction to the weekend from the owner and winemaker, and a glass of chilled English Sparkling Wine. Have Friday evening to yourselves to settle in and cook, or head into Shaftesbury, just a mile away and explore the local town and dine out.

Saturday’s activities start at 9.30 am, so that you have time for a leisurely breakfast, with a late morning and lunch break.  The afternoon ends around 4.30pm. Depending on the time of year and weather, supervised activities may include: vineyard maintenance, viticulture, pruning, canopy management, river bank maintenance, apple picking/pressing, cider making, grape picking/pressing, wine making and bottling. Bring waterproof shoes/wellies and comfortable, working clothes!

Time to rest and freshen up before the winery talk starts at 5.30pm with tastings to follow and a Dorset Platter for supper of local ham, Dorset cheeses, chutneys and fresh crusty Bread and butter, with a top up glass of your favourite of the Melbury Vale wines.  From 7.30 pm onwards the evening is your own….. with the opportunity to buy wines to take away as gifts, or to continue the evening back at your glamping barrel and enjoy a wine of your choice over a brazier fire, chatting, watching the stars, or looking out for barn owls gliding through the valley and deer skipping through the fields at dusk!

Sunday is yours……check out by Noon!

(NB Harvest time September to October itinerary differs).

To make your glamping visit easy, there are WC and shower facilities in the winery, (including disabled access); and whilst you are welcome to bring your own stove to cook out,  we also offer shared, self-service catering facilities in our ‘gypsy caravan’; complete with crockery, cutlery, glasses, utensils, kettle, toaster and microwave.

All you need to do is bring yourselves, air-beds or roll mats, all bedding, towels, toiletries and food for home comforts and a fun weekend away!
