English Wine Week & Dorset Arts Week Friday 25th May – Saturday 2nd May 2018

We will be open at the winery every day from 10am – 5pm for English Wine Week which is also Dorset Arts Week.  To celebrate both of these fantastic events we will be open for wine tastings as usual, with tours and lunch on Friday and Saturdays, but also exhibiting beautiful paintings by Dorset artist Sarah Kelly and works by Stephen Coles who is our local cultural engineer working with art and metals.  Stephen will be running workshops for you to book on Sunday 27th and Bank holiday Monday 28th May. Go to https://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/melbury-vale-vineyard-3, scroll down and click on ‘make a booking’ and select which date you would like to attend the workshop.

Melbury Vale Community Apple Pressing Day

We had a ball here at the winery on October 21st – our official apple pressing day. The weather was horrible with rain and wind blasting the building but that didn’t put our spirits down! We got through pressing all the crates of apples (of many different varieties!) and now the process is well underway to make some tasty apple juice and cider to be collected over the coming months!

Thanks to all in the community who participated.

English Sparkling Wine – Grace and Decadence is now available!

It has taken us over another year to produce more of Melbury Vale’s Grace and Decadence – white and rose English Sparkling Wine.  The last release was so popular that we sold out in 6 months.  This time we have made more in the hope that we can keep up with customer demand.

It has certainly been worth the wait….we know that you will think we are biased, but this release for both white and rose is not just good….it is fantastic!   The customer feedback so far is more than positive, with a few pleasantly surprised expressions from new customers who tried it at the Shaftesbury Food Fair, which was the first outing and true test for Grace and Decadence from the most important people ….our customers and the general public!

“Thank you for such a lovely day today! Dad and I much enjoyed our tour and lunch with you. ….. really enjoyed hearing about the vines and the actual process of making the wine. Of course we also much enjoyed tasting your wines too – just wish I hadn’t been driving! Those fusion wines at the end smelled divine! The lunch was delicious too and so nice to see local produce on the menu! …. you are underselling yourselves! ……Thanks again and good luck with it all”

Professional comment:

“We thoroughly enjoyed the wines and both went extremely well with the warm chicken salad I had prepared. I thought the white [Elegance]was light, clean, dry, crisp and flinty with the very distinct smell of elderflower on the nose. A really refreshing wine for a lovely summers evening. The rose [Virtue] had sweet red fruits on the nose and the clean and freshness of the palate…….. like a Provencal rose, which I am sure you are delighted to hear.”
